Archery in The Winter – A Few Things You Need

The seasons stop for no person, and this is a fact that is apparent no more than when you’re playing an outdoor sport. If you’re trying to improve your game, you can’t let 6 months of the year pass you by while you wait for fall and winter to go back into hibernation. And archery is the same. Preparing for a day in the field with nothing more than a bow, arrow and target in the summer is bliss, but in the winter, you’ll need a few more things than that. So, pack your bag with a few of our suggestions below.

Hat and Scarf

There’s absolutely no way you should be leaving the house without these no matter what you’re doing in winter, but standing in a windy, cold field practicing your aim is a hard sell even at the best of times. So pack your hat, hunt down your scarf and make sure that you’re preparing yourself to be outdoors for a good few hours. At least this way, you’re nowhere near as cold as half of the other people at the range. Psychological battle – won.

Spare Lighting

One day or another you’re likely to be heading across to the range when it’s either yet no go light, or soon to go dark. After work or after play, sometimes other things just get in the way, but you don’t need to let this affect you. If you grab an LED light (you can find the best light bars at Light Bar Liaison) you can light up even the drearier of day easily. You can even put it above your target to help see much better as the light goes down. Just don’t miss the bullseye, otherwise you’ll be walking home in the dark!

Waterproof Shoes

Most of the best ranges are in the middle of nowhere – in a field, usually – and when winter comes along and the rain starts to fall, the grass becomes super soggy. Avoid getting damp feet and becoming fed up by investing in some waterproof shoes as prime protection from precipitation.

Mobile Phone Port

Mobile Phone Port

A mobile phone port that can charge your phone remotely may be one of the most important pieces of kit you get. If you’re in the middle of nowhere, alone, and something goes wrong – this is a sport played with an arrow, after all – you may need to contact someone ASAP. A lack of battery on your mobile isn’t exactly handy, is it? Be wise and charge your device.

Don’t let the dark and damp days ruin your game. If you invest in some of the above, you’ll end up improving your game and not noticing the difference in seasons. Are you able to think of a few more? Then get planning! Winter may not be here yet, but before you know if summer will be gone and the dark nights will be drawing nearer and nearer. Hop to it!
